GUWAHATI: After the recent crackdown against the land brokers across the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma now hinted at launching a similar step against the brokers active in District Transport Office (DTO)s. Lots of people often allege that they have to bear harassment of brokers in the DTO offices.

Chief Minister Sarma, on Monday, said that he received a list of 382 brokers active in the DTO offices of the state.

"I have received a list of 382 brokers. I have also received their property lists which are very impressive," the Chief Minister added. He also opined that some stringent steps are necessary to set things right. " If we want a progressive Assam, then some steps have to be taken", he said, adding that he has also come to know the names of the corrupt officials in the DTO offices.

Earlier, Assam Police has arrested 453 land 'Dalals' or brokers from across the state after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had spoken against the system of hiring land brokers at a state-level conference of circle officers and Additional Deputy Commissioners-Revenue(ADCs) held in Guwahati on 8 September.
