GUWAHATI: In a bid to generate employment opportunities in the state, the Assam BJP-led government will provide financial assistance to over 6 thousand unemployed youths to buy commercial passenger vehicles.
Addressing a press meet, the State Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika said that the government would provide financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh as a subsidy to 6, 600 youths to buy commercial vehicles so that they can find an income avenue and become self-reliant.
The decision was taken in a state Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Minister added.
He also said, "We will provide a subsidy of Rs. 1 lakh to 6, 600 unemployed youths who buy commercial passenger vehicles. Also, we will arrange free driving training for them. The training period will be of 45 days. After completion of the training, the youths will be given driving licenses."
He further said that the government will select 50 unemployed youths from each assembly constituency of the state for the scheme. The minister hoped that the initiative would help mitigate the state staggering unemployment opportunity to an extent.
On the other hand, the Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) has demanded the State Government to fill up backlog posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in many departments before giving government jobs to 1 lakh youths of the State.
A meeting of the CCTOA was held in Guwahati on Monday where many important issues concerning the welfare of tribal people were discussed. The meeting was held under the presidentship of All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) president Sukumar Basumatary.
