GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the state government will hold a recruitment event on Thursday, May 25 at the Veterinary College ground in Guwahati's Khanapara, where 44,703 hopefuls will be given appointment letters in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Sarma addressed the media at Janata Bhawan in Dispur, outlining the government's plan to submit advertising for 22,776 positions across multiple departments, ultimately reducing overlaps and waiting lists.
The Assam Government intends to address the state's long-standing issue of vacancies in the public sector with the goal of creating more job opportunities and ensuring the proper operation of government machinery.
The Assam State Electricity Board will start first by advertising 2,500 positions among the departments where openings will be advertised. This move will strengthen the personnel and improve the board's ability to satisfy the state's growing power sector demands. In addition, the Agriculture Department will advertise for 2,500 extension assistant positions, while the Police Department will advertise for 2,000 positions, bolstering law enforcement efforts.
In the Assam Police recruitment procedure, 1,279 people were picked, with 553 chosen for radio operator posts and 39 for fireman duties.
The Home Guards department would get 307 new members, followed by the jail department (301), and the excise department (222). Furthermore, 2,720 people would be handed appointment letters in the forest battalions.
CM Sarma also emphasised the government's commitment to the families of the 231 Assam Police martyrs, who will be offered job appoitment. In addition, 359 people who were previously rejected employment with the police department have now been appointed.
The health department would hire 5,281 additional employees, while the education department would hire 704 new employees. 421 would be employed as college assistant professors, while 2,332 would be appointed as secondary teachers. Notably, all primary teacher vacancies would be filled by Assamese candidates.
In addition, the Directorate of Soil Conservation would appoint 14 people, and additional recruitment lists would be issued as long as the cut-off marks remained unchanged. These extra lists would have 198 and 637 positions in grades 3 and 4, respectively. The total number of additional posts would be 22,565, with 2,000 more in the police department and 600 in the health department. Class 3 and Class 4 positions would witness an increase of 2,519 and 1,347 recruits, respectively.
