GUWAHATI: The Assam government is learned to declare a new set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) today to tackle better the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to sources, the government may announce relaxation for some districts which have been witnessing improvement in the pandemic situation.
Earlier, the government declared total containment zones in seven districts as these reported an alarming number of COVID cases.
Unlike the other districts, the pandemic situation in Jorhat and Golaghat still remains alarming.
However, the pandemic situation has shown improvement in districts like South Salmara, Sonitpur among others. Sources revealed the government is mulling to impose strict restrictions in some other districts as these have started to report a higher number of COVID cases.
Meanwhile, the government granted permission for home delivery of liquor in Guwahati. According to Health Minister, the home delivery of liquor in the city would be done initially for one month on an experimental basis.
He added that if the government receives expected results, then it would be kept in place for a longer period.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "Health department has submitted the current Covid status before the state government and the chief minister is going to take the call on issuing the new SOP. Since the previous guidelines are effective till today, a new SOP may come up tomorrow."
