Assam: GRP Recovers Smuggled Gold Worth Rs 20 Lakhs From Gauhati Railway Station

GUWAHATI: At Guwahati Train Station on Tuesday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) made yet another large-scale seizure of gold.

An accused named Sampat Rao was detained in relation to the seizure. The suspected gold smuggler was apprehended at the train station with about 320 grammes of gold.

It has been discovered that the gold was being carried from Agartala to the national capital but was stopped at Guwahati.

The gold that was seized is said to have cost Rs 20 lakh.

In another incident that took place in the Guwahati railway station last month, municipal police detained two people who were in possession of a significant amount of gold.

A squad of police under the direction of OC Prosenjit Das conducted an operation and apprehended the pair from the Tezwas Express train at the railway station after acting on intelligence inputs.

The gold that was seized is alleged to have cost about Rs 60 lakh. The pair intended to take the gold from Manipur to Delhi in order to sell it, but they were stopped in Guwahati by vigilant police.

A matter came to light recently, where Assam police successfully nabbed as many as 11 robbers and seized a huge number of copper utensils. The incident has been recorded in Assam’s Biswanath Chariali. 

The arrests was made on 13th of February, and police informed that based on a complaint registered in the concerned police department, a team of cops initiated search operation at varied locations of the region. During the process eleven individuals were found guilty from different areas under Biswanath police station. 

S Hazowary, the police officer of Biswanath informed that, eleven men are currently under the custody as a huge number of copper utensils has been recovered prom their possession. Amongst the accused men, few includes minor and Hazowary informed that they will be taken in the Juvenile Justice Board. 

The rest who has attained the age of 18 years were be presented in the court. The concerned department had continued with the investigation and a case has been registered against the matter.
