GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Monday visited Jorhat and Golaghat on Monday and took stock of the development schemes being implemented in the two districts.

In Jorhat, the Governor Kataria paid a visit to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and took stock of the medical facilities made available for the patients. He reviewed the different facilities available in the hospital and talked to the patients to make assessment of their requirements. The Governor also visited several wards including the paediatric and cardiac units.

Governor Gulab Chand Kataria also visited Cancer Care Centre at JMCH and inspected the treatment facilities for the patients. He also chaired a meeting with the heads of different departments of the college.

A meeting was held with Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Pulak Mahanta, Superintendent of Police along with different department heads to oversee the implementation of various schemes of the central and state governments. The Guv also took stock of the law and order situation in the district.

Assam Governor later visited Golaghat and made similar assessment of the progress of implementation of different Central and State government schemes.

In a meeting chaired by the Governor, DC Golaghat Dr P Uday Praveen gave a PowerPoint presentation with a brief description of different aspects of Golaghat and gave a detailed account of the progress of different schemes that the district has achieved so far.

Undertaking a review of the work of the Agriculture Department in the district, Assam Governor asked the DC to ensure that no rightful beneficiary is deprived of the benefits under the PM Kisan scheme, asking him to give top priority to the scheme.

Governor Kataria also took stock of the progress of Prime Minister’s Fasal Bima Yojana and Assam Millet Mission.

Since Golaghat is a district with lots of tea gardens, the Governor took stock of the Model Schools being set up in the tea garden areas. He emphasized on the importance of education as an important tools to bring all sections of the people up the economic ladder.

“The Government can bring about socio-economic and cultural empowerment of the people of the tea garden areas by giving adequate and qualitative education to the students belonging to tea gardens”, the Governor said. He also stressed that women in tea gardens should be covered under the health schemes.

Governor Kataria, in his discussions with the Department of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, also took stock on matters pertaining to rural housing schemes, the provision of job cards under MGNREGA, the progress of the Amrit Sarobar project, and the implementation the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-Gramin.

Regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission under the Public Health Department, he said the real success of the scheme would depend only on whether all the beneficiaries have received water or not.

Anganwadi centres and the present status of construction of national highways etc were also inspected by the Guv.

In a detailed discussion with the Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur on the functioning of the police administration, the Governor expressed satisfaction over the low crime rate in the district. He also took stock of cyber crime and the situation in the border areas.

Earlier the Governor also visited Numaligarh refinery in Golaghat district and explored the various in-house labs and sites, while inspecting the facility.
