Assam: Hagrama Mohilary reaffirms return to power as BJP leaders join BPF

Hagrama Mohilary, the former CEM of BTC and president of BPF, has confirmed his intention to return to power by fortifying the BPF’s foundation in BTC. On Tuesday, six leaders—five BJP and one Congress—joined BPF at its office in Kokrajhar.

KOKRAJHAR: Hagrama Mohilary, the former CEM of BTC and president of BPF, has confirmed his intention to return to power by fortifying the BPF’s foundation in BTC. On Tuesday, six leaders—five BJP and one Congress—joined BPF at its office in Kokrajhar.

The BJP leaders who joined the BPF in Kokrajhar include Raj Kumar Brahma, ex president of Kokrajhar district BJP, Biplob Devnath, Executive Member of Assam State BJP, Swapan Marandi, secretary of Chirang district BJP, Bijay Krishna Saha, president of Linguistic Minority Cell of Chirang district BJP, Nabaranjan Barman, secretary of Kokrajhar district BJP Yuva Marcha and Chandan Tarapdar, chairman of Grievance department of Chirang district APCC.

Talking to reporters, the president of BPF Hagrama Mohilary said five BJP and a Congress leaders of various capacities have joined the BPF seeking replacement of BJP in the state and BTC. He said Raj Kumar Brahma, ex- president of Kokrajhar district BJP was an active member of their party and he has come back to BPF. There are many BJP and UPPL leaders and workers who have been communicating with BPF to join them, he said adding that hundreds of workers from various political parties are likely to join BPF in the days to come. He also said the BPF will allot suitable position to BJP leaders who have joined the BPF on Tuesday and they will decide it in the next central executive meeting of the party to be held in Baksa district on November 30.

On the preparation of ground work for 2024 parliamentary election, he said the BPF was born alone and will fight the election alone. He said they will fight in Kokrajhar and Darrang- Udalguri constituencies without forging an alliance with any party. He also said there had been no pre-poll meeting with BJP and other parties.

Replying to queries, Mohilary said there was no electioneering understanding with BJP and thus there is no question to leave seat or seat sharing with BJP but will fight in both constituencies of BTC alone. He said BPF will regain both the seats as they have got back the mass public support. He further said BJP had been playing politics of divide and rule in BTC.

The joining programme was also attended by former BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary, MLA Rabiram Narzary, MCLA Doneswar Goyary and other senior leaders.
