Assam: Hailstorm lashes Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A strong hailstorm violently lashed North Lakhimpur subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Saturday. The hailstorm hit the district like a whip-lash around 3.45 pm and uprooted and broke big trees at different places of the district. Uprooted tree blocked the National Highway-15 near Durga Mandir located at the outskirts of the North Lakhimpur town. The North Lakhimpur Electrical Subdivision has suffered heavy losses due to the hailstorm that ravaged electrical poles at different places under the subdivision. At present various places under the electrical subdivision are reeling under darkness at the time of filing this report. Though the department concerned has been conducting rehabilitation works since the time the calamity was over, rain has affected the accomplishments. The storm also blew away the house roofs and damaged the farm houses causing loss to the poultry and pig rearers. The calamity has damaged the growing Ravi crops in the district too.
