Guwahati: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today clarified that COVID tests would continue to be free and treatment in general wards of government hospitals including plasma treatment would continue to be free.

Only those staying in paying cabins would have to pay the charges for the paying cabin. Treatment for those staying in paying cabins would be free.

"There are at least 10 BJP MPs and MLAs who are staying at the paying cabins at this point of time. They are all willing to pay. We are charging for plasma therapy kits for those cases who are from nursing homes. We should avoid unnecessary controversy," the minister said addressing a press conference here.

The minister further said that only those who want test results within 24 hours would have to pay an amount of Rs 2,400.

Inter-district patients who have recovered would be helped by the government to reach their homes. They can avail the government transport but for patients from Guwahati, the minister requested them to arrange for their own transport. He said that several people have actually suggested this.
