BISWANATH: Wild elephants have continued to create havoc in the Biswanath region of the state in the past few days. The recent floods have created problems for humans and animals alike and animals have ventured out into human-inhibited spots.

With the plains of the Kaziranga National Park being flooded with the waters of the Brahmaputra River, many animals have ventured out of the protected area. In recent times, a herd of elephants that came out of the park has been roaming around in the Biswanath region. The herd entered the Guptakashi locality and terrorised the people of the region. The herd was seen roaming in the regions near the river over the past few days and the local people tried their best to chase the herd away. But the people were unsuccessful in their venture.

The herd entered the human-inhibited localities of Notun Gaon and Puroni Gaon of Guptakashi ghat of Biswanath. The elephant herd entered the village areas and destroyed the crops of the local farmers. Meanwhile, the officials of the forest department are trying hard to chase the elephants back into the forest area. But they are still unsuccessful in their endeavour.

Meanwhile, damages on the embankment near the Biswanath region have put the regions of Biswanth, Sootea and Jamugurihaat at risk of being flooded by the waters of the already-flooded Brahmaputra River.
