Assam: Heroin Seized In Guwahati, Two Brothers Arrested

GUWAHATI: Tuesday night, Guwahati city police arrested two drug dealers and confiscated a sizable quantity of illicit heroin from their possession.

On the basis of information from a reliable source, Chandmari police detained Mantu Rahman, a peddler who was out and about distributing drugs in his scooter with the registration number "AS 01 EA 4306." Police searched the scooter's luggage compartment and found 2 sachets of heroin there.

Later, when police conducted a raid on his Ganesh Nagar home, they found two further packets and 60 heroin bottles. Police added that his brother Mintu Rahman was also discovered to be involved and was detained. It is estimated that the seized drugs weigh about 55 grammes in total. A case has been filed against the pair under the NDPS Act in the interim.

To find more connections, an inquiry is being conducted. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the joint commissioner of police, revealed earlier this month that in 2022, Guwahati municipal police expect to capture drugs worth Rs 250 crores.

According to Mahanta, drug peddlers employ a variety of strategies to sneak drugs into the state, but vigilant police in Guwahati has been able to foil these attempts and capture the peddlers.

Additionally, the police established the phone number 6026901246 for anyone to call with information about narcotics or drug dealers. Earlier, In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam police on Tuesday found approximately 90 kg of Yaba tablets in the Karimganj area of Assam. It is the state's largest drug seizure.

According to sources, a squad of Karimganj police stopped an Alto automobile with the licence plate AS-10A-6487 in Nischintapur, Bagargul, and confiscated a significant amount of drugs from the vehicle. According to the police, a drug dealer named Hafiz Uddin was detained in connection with the discovery.
