GUWAHATI : On Saturday morning, Assam police has recovered drugs worth Rs 1 crore as per the international market, from a night super bus. The incident took place in Assam's Tinsukia district, and the bus was carrying heroine in it.
As per an official statement, the police team has detained four persons in connection with smuggling drugs. The bus driver was also one of the accused and got apprehended by the police.
The accused has been identified as Pankaj Dihingia, the driver of the bus who is 49 years old, Dejen Deka, the handyman of the bus who is 45 years old and the other two were recognised as Binod Bhumij and Surendar Rai.
Parag Jyoti Buragohain, the officer-in-charge of Tinsukia police station informed that, 765.81 gms of heroine were kept in several soap cases in the night super. The bus was caught in A.T road near the ASTC bus terminal. As per the sources, the bus was travelling from Dimapur with the registration number, AS 01 JC 6754.
The OC further said that an investigation is carried out to indentify every link in this particular drug chain. He claims that the consignment has been brought from Dimapur in Nagaland. The prime focus now is to capture the main players behind this smuggle.
He continues by saying that, Dimapur in Nagaland is now acting as the main source of import and export of several kinds of illicit items. These items are transferred through bus and trains in various region across the state. Tinsukia witnessed two cases of drug seizure in 96 hours.
According to sources from intelligence agencies, there is involvement of underground Naga outfits in the recent drug hauls. This is a major concern for the security agencies of the state. Just before 96 hours, Assam police had seized drugs from near the New Tinsukia Railway station.
