SILCHAR: Despite three months long ethnic violence in Manipur, the inter-state drugs racketeering via Barak Valley continues as usual.

On Wednesday, Silchar police acting on a secret information intercepted a Bolero car at NIT bypass and recovered 1.50 kg of suspected heroin. Police apprehended four persons along with the contraband narcotic substance and all these four persons are from Churachandpur, one of the most-affected districts of riot-hit Manipur.

The detained persons were identified as Mamang Haokip (36), Haobem Haokip (30),Henboi Haokip and Gogou Paite (30).Cachar SP NomalMahatta in a press briefing said, the consignment, kept in 104 soap cases, was being illegally transported from Churachandpur via the Champai-Aizwal road in Mizoram. The Bolero car was registered with Mizoram. The value of the seized heroin will not be less than Rs 12 crore, a police source said.
