GUWAHATI: On Sunday night in Basistha, the Guwahati Police discovered up to 80 soap cases carrying heroin.
According to reports, the police stopped two vehicles at Nalapara and found 1.056 kg of heroin inside. The estimated total value of the heroin that was found is Rs. 9 crore.
In the meantime, three suspects were detained in relation to the seizure. The accused has been identified as Zamal Ali, Muzamil Haque, and Abdul Rashid. In charge of the operation was DCP Surjeet Panesa.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the efforts by Guwahati police and tweeted regarding the same. He wrote, “Last night, @GuwahatiPol intercepted two vehicles at Nalapara, Basistha and seized 88 soap cases containing Heroin weighing 1.056 kg. Also, three accused have been apprehended. Really appreciate the efforts by @assampolice. Keep it up.”
Six people, including a lady, were detained earlier in Juria during an anti-drug operation conducted by Nagaon Police. Initial reports state that a combined operation was conducted at a home in Naga Bandha, close to Juria, based on specific inputs.
Authorities reported that a squad made up of members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Nagaon Police had jointly stormed Saiful Islam's home. Huge amounts of illegal drugs were seized during the joint CRPF and Nagaon Police search.
Officials claim that during the raids, up to 15 crates containing illegal substances were seized. During the operation in Nagaon's Juria, six people, including a woman, were apprehended by the authorities.
Anarul Hussain, Inamul Haque, Sahidul Islam, Saiful Islam, Mainuddin, and Johora Khatun were among those detained. Also found by authorities in Nagaon were Rs 5 lakhs in cash, three motorcycles, and an e-rickshaw, in addition to the significant drug seizure.
Recently, Assam Rifles informed that, a massive amount of areca nuts worth Rs 3.51 crore was recovered and seized from Mizoram’s Indo-Myanmar border. The episode took place in the Champhai district of the state. A search operation was launched in the Melbuk area along the international border.
Assam Rifles in association with the Custom officials initiated the operation based on a prior secretive information. As many as 780 bags of areca nuts were recovered from the area.
