Assam: Hindu Krant Dal demands justice for Meehak Sharma, stages protest

DIBRUGARH: The Hindu Kranti Dal, Dibrugarh unit staged protest over the brutal killing of Meehak Sharma at Thana Chariali in Dibrugarh.

Holding placards and banners, the activists of the organization took out the rally from the old railway station, demanding capital punishment for prime accused Aziz Ahmed alias Munna.

Moushami Sharma, mother of the victim, demanded capital punishment of the accused. “We demand capital punishment for Aziz Ahmed because he killed my daughter. She was tortured by him before being killed. Only capital punishment can deliver justice to my daughter,” Moushami Sharma said.

A leader of Hindu Kranti Dal said, “We want the case to be taken up by a fast-track court. We also demand capital punishment of the accused. The postmortem report of the victim should be made public.”

The body of 20-year-old Mehek Sharma was found on the Dibrugarh town bypass recently under mysterious circumstances. According to reports, the body with severe injury marks, was found lying on the road near a car bearing registration number AS-06-AH-1143 in the middle of the bypass.

A person who was later identified as Aziz Ahmed alias Munna, was found lying on the road alongside the dead girl with no injuries. The car belonged to him.

While Mehek Sharma lived in the Khalihamari area of Dibrugarh, Aziz Ahmed was a resident of Maijan in Dibrugarh. During initial investigation it came to light that Aziz Ahmed, who is married and a father of two children, had been pressurizing Mehek Sharma to have a relationship with him for the last six months.

Sources said Aziz is reportedly a professional gambler, and gives money on interest. He has no other business. Aziz Ahmed is under six days police custody.
