Guwahati: In a tragic incident, two candidates committed suicide after the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination was declared on June 7. A 15-year-old boy going by the name of Rahul Bora, who hailed from Mangaldai, committed suicide on May 6 just a day before the results were announced. The boy also left behind a suicide note which was found near his body. "Maa and Deuta (mother and father) I will not be able to give what you want. Therefore, I seek apology from you both. I wish you both to stay good," he wrote in his suicide note. Rahul, who committed suicide on June 6, scored letter marks in Sanskrit and managed to secure second division in HSLC examination. Rahul happened to be the son of Tarini Bora and Anna Bora and the 15-year-old ended his life at around 2 pm in the kitchen room of his house by hanging himself in the absence of his parents. On the other hand, another suicide case has been reported from Merapani, where a student took his own life after he was unable to clear the HSLC examination. The student has been identified as Sobin Chutia, who was a resident of Jitour village in Charaimari and the deceased was a student of Charaimari High School. Meanwhile, as many as 2,29,131 students have cleared the HSLC 2022 exam which were conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). Notably, as many as 4,05,582 students have appeared for the HSLC examination this year in the state, out of which, 64101 candidates have secured third division, followed by 99854 in second division and 65176 students have clinched the first division. It is worth mentioning that the boys have outshined girls during this year's HSLC exams. The pass percentage amongst the boys stands at 69.93 per cent while 62.91 per cent of girls who appeared for the exam have cleared the same. The overall pass percentage stands at 56.49 per cent.
