BISWANATH: in a major success against the illegal smuggling of liquor in the state, a police team was able to capture a huge consignment of illegal liquor in the state.

During an operation conducted by the Biswanath Police on Thursday night, a huge amount of liquor was confiscated. The value of the captured contraband is said to be about Rs 1 Cr 35 Lakh. The consignment was sourced in Arunachal Pradesh and was on its way to the state of Manipur. A truck bearing registration number AS 01 LC 8260 was also seized and four miscreants were apprehended by the police.

A total of 1023 cases of alcohol of different brands were confiscated. Another vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 FH 9539, which was also found accompanying the confiscated truck was also seized by the police.

In a recent crackdown, Manipur police have successfully apprehended five individuals suspected of engaging in drug trafficking activities within the Imphal West district. The operation carried out through thorough frisking and checking, led to the seizure of significant evidence linking the suspects to the illegal drug trade. Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialized team from the Singjamei police station Commandos strategically positioned themselves at the western approach of the Singjamei Bridge in Imphal West district around 11 pm on a Wednesday. Swiftly and effectively, the police team managed to intercept and overpower the suspects, ensuring a safe and controlled operation.

From the possession of the apprehended individuals, the police recovered a loaded .32 pistol containing a live round, a substantial amount of cash totalling Rs 3.5 lakh, and a vehicle described as a black Creta without any visible registration number. Additionally, two bags, seven mobile phones, and two loose vehicle number plates were seized as potential evidence. Disturbingly, the suspects were also found to be in possession of three bottles of CODEDYL-T, each containing 100ml and including Codeine Phosphate 10 mg.
