GUWAHATI: The acclaimed Suryakiran aerobatic team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) is geared up to stir up the skies of the Northeast once again.

The Suryakiran aerobatic team presented a spectacular performance in Meghalaya, last December. At present they are preparing to fly high through the skies of Guwahati, Assam.

A highly anticipated air display by the IAF's Suryakiran Aerobatic team is scheduled for September 27. The event is supposed to take place at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, Assam.

The time for the air display by the team is 10 am.

Popularly, the Suryakiran aerobatic team is also labelled as the Ambassadors of the Indian Air Force.

The team is uniquely categorized because of being one of the few 9 aircraft formation Aerobatic teams in the world.

Based in Bidar in Karnataka, the aerobatic team flies nine Hawk Mk132 aircraft. British Aerospace designed the Hawk Mk132 and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited manufactures them in India.

The team consists of 12 pilots, 3 engineering officers, one administrator, and one doctor, along with a ground crew comprising 150 air warriors. Group Captain GS Dhillon leads the entire team.

The Suryakiran aerobatic team was created in the year 1996. Since then, it has worked immensely to personify the Indian Air Force motto - "Touch the sky with glory".

This team has showcased over 600 air displays in many parts of India and in many abroad nations.

The team flew past various cities in India last year during the Vijay Varsh celebrations. These cities include Dehradun, Mumbai, Rameswaram and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.

The 52nd Squadron of the IAF is inclusive of the Suryakiran aerobatic team.

Prior to the use of Hawk Mk-132 aircraft, the team was composed of the HAL HJT-16 Kiran Mk.2 military trainer aircraft. In the year 2011, the team was suspended and re-established in the year 2017 with the Hawk Mk-132 aircraft.
