GUWAHATI: Anant Mittal, a 25-year-old IIT-Guwahati dropout who has developed a bio-refinery that successfully extracts valuable metals from electronic waste, is establishing a new bar for innovation in India.

According to a report, his demonstration plant in Roorkee is now ready for commercialization and has been set up to process 150 kg of e-waste every day.

In 2020, Anant discontinued his BTech Civil Engineering studies to concentrate on his drone-related ventures. To offer the greatest drone solutions in India, his business, RacerFly, has already created drones using both South Korean and Chinese components.

At the same time, Anant and his team created a bio-hydrometallurgical method that allows for a 98% extraction rate of gold and palladium from e-waste. Compared to conventional methods, this procedure is more environmentally friendly and clean because no dangerous gases or chemicals are released, and the byproducts may be recycled and sold again.

This development may lessen our reliance on imports and, if successful, may promote a more sustainable economy. Anant's invention is a fantastic illustration of how success is possible despite all odds.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is working on the creation of a digitalised map of all the places of cultural and historical importance distributed across the state of Assam. They have undertaken a project with the same goal.

A project entitled "Annotated Atlas of the heritage sites of Assam: Using GIS (Geographical Information System)," will be implemented by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, the premier central engineering institution of the Northeastern region.

Once implemented completely, this project has the ability to add a whole new dimension to the tourism sector of the state and the entire northeast region. It will enable tourists to make their itineraries to visit select destinations at the perfect time or season of the year while taking into account the local heritage as well as festivals and events.

This project will be implemented by the educational institution along with the Heritage Conservation Society of Assam. They aim to create an annotated map of the sites distributed across the state and create a visual representation of the cultures of the state of Assam along with its geographical as well as demographic markers. According to a statement, this project will include, "Digitised maps will be produced by using QR codes. The data can be uploaded in the public domain."
