Guwahati: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted heavy rainfall activity in the northeastern region.

''Very heavy rainfall activity likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during 30th-31st July, over Bihar during 31st July-01st August and heavy rainfall over remaining parts of East & Northeast India during 30th July-02nd August and decrease thereafter,'' IMD tweeted.

It further said that the rainfall activity is likely to gradually enhance over Peninsular India from 31st July, 2022.

''Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm and lightning very likely over Bihar during 30th July- 02nd August; Jharkhand during 31st July- 02nd August; Gangetic West Bengal on 31st July & 01st August; Odisha on 01st August; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next 4 days and Arunachal Pradesh on 30th July, 2022,'' an official statement from IMD said.

Notably, in the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, West

Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram,

Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe.

It also added that scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to continue over central India during next 4-5 days with isolated heavy falls over East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on 30th July and 03rd August, 2022.
