KOKRAJHAR: Along with the rest of the country, the 77th Independence Day was celebrated by Kokrajhar district administration on Tuesday at Kokrajhar Government HS&MP School playground with patriotic fervour and colourful programmes.

The CEM of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro hoisted the national tricolour amidst huge spectators. Before hoisting the national flag, he paid glowing tribute to martyrs of the Indian freedom movement at the martyrs’ tomb. He inspected the guard of honour by police contingents, NCC and students of various educational institutions before addressing the people.

In his address, BTC chief Pramod Boro said, “We are free citizens of India because of the sacrifices of hundreds of national martyrs who fought for the freedom of the country. Today on this auspicious occasion, I pay my humble respect and tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and all martyrs who have sacrificed for our goodness.” He said India became the largest democracy in the world and it happened because of the great visionary leaders of India -from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi and Rajendra Prasad to Draupadi Murmu -who designed the architecture of vibrant India. He said India was becoming the world’s third largest economy because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative, Sabka Saat, Sabka Vikash and Sabka Viswas and for his dynamic leadership.

Boro further said that the government of BTC led by UPPL had been working for fast development in the region in mission mode. He said a number of missions have been taken up for sustainable development goals in every sector. He said for development of rural economy, the government had launched pig mission, handloom mission, sericulture mission, goat mission, milk mission and Mission Fin Rwdwmkhang for creating livelihood for former members of NDFB. He said Bodofa Livelihood Mission was launched to create job avenues for unemployed youths of the region in their respective sectors and they are given training under Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) to boost their skill of work and required support is given by the government of BTC.

DIBRUGARH: BCPL’s Director (Finance) and Managing Director (Additional Charge) Pruthiviraj Dash hoisted the Tricolour at BCPL Township on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day celebration on August 15. The National Flag was also hoisted by Pranjal Changmai, General Manager (Chemical/Operations In-Charge) BCPL, at its Administrative Building. MD in-charge of BCPL, Pruthiviraj Dash took the salute of CISF contingents and inspected the marchpast. During the occasion, State rank holders in the HSLC and HS examination from Dibrugarh district were felicitated. Reep Hazarika, outgoing Managing Director, BCPL, also graced the occasion. In his address, Dash thanked everyone for joining in the Independence Day celebrations and also paid his heart-felt tribute to the great souls who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation. He also urged the BCPL fraternity to work dedicatedly for the company’s progress and thus contribute to the nation’s growth. A friendly football match was held between BCPL employees to mark the celebration. (EOM)

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated in Biswanath along with other parts of the State. The main programme of the day was organized at the court ground of Biswanath Chariali. Dr Neha Yadav, Additional District Commissioner and Officiating Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Biswanath, hoisted the national flag as the chief guest. In her speech, the officer paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and the known and unknown freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle of the country. She also gave a brief account of various development initiatives taken by the government in the past to enrich a vast area like Biswanath. He said that work on 17 ambitious schemes with a total cost of Rs 425.75 crore was underway for the comprehensive development of all the assembly constituencies under Biswanath.

Several educational institutions, music institutions, institutes and groups participated in the Independence Day celebrations. A total of 18 individuals and one institution were honoured for their outstanding achievements in various fields in Biswanath in conjunction with this central event. After the main event, fruits were distributed among the patients of the local civil hospital, inmates of the district jail and students of differently-abled schools.
