BONGAIGAON: With a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of journalists in the state, Journalists Association For Assam, JAFA has initiated a discussion with Minister Piyush Hazarika on Tuesday at the minister’s office. The delegation of journalists was led by the central committee of JAFA and its other members. During the meeting, the delegation presented a memorandum demanding the immediate implementation of free health insurance and life insurance for all journalists. Additionally, they sought the establishment of housing colonies for media personnel.

In response to the delegation’s demands, Information and Public Relations Minister Piyush Hazarika assured a collaborative effort to find a solution. To further address the issues faced by journalists in Assam, the minister received the written memorandum promising to implement the requested health insurance and life insurance policies. He also pledged to facilitate the construction of a guesthouse in Guwahati for to host journalists coming from various parts of the country and the state. The delegation, led by JAFA, presented the memorandum with the aim of safeguarding the interests of all journalists in Assam.

Furthermore, the memorandum stressed on the need to provide financial support to the families of deceased journalists who were entitled to pensions. It proposed a one-time compensation of Rs 20 lakhs to be given to the families of journalists who pass away while in service.
