MANGALDAI: Himadri Kumar Sarma of Mangaldai, who was actively involved with the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) since quite a long time, is no more. He breathed his last in a private hospital on Monday night following a sudden brain stroke on the night of April 7 in his residence at Tengabari here.

On receipt of the tragic news of his demise, people of the town as well as various organizations expressed deep shock and pain and rushed to his paternal residence to offer him their last respect. All the office-bearers and activists of AJYCP in Darrang district, office bearers of the district unit of All Assam Students’ Union, media persons, Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das, Congress candidate for Mangaldai HPC, Bhubaneswar Kalita, former legislator Basanta Das and prominent citizens of Mangaldai offered their homage to youth activist Himadri Sarma.

Himadri Kumar Sarma, popularly known as ‘Baba’ in the entire district, was born in Konwar Gaon of North Lakhimpur town in Lakhimpur district on December 2, 1974 as his father Nath Sarma was serving there as the Election Officer. With the transfer of his father to Mangaldai, he too returned to his home town at Mangaldai and completed his education from Mngaldai HS School and Mangaldai College.

He joined the AJYCP in 1993 and was nominated as the secretary of the Darrang district committee and as a member of the Central Executive Committee of AJYCP. He was involved with the AJYCP till his last as a dedicated member.

This morning, his body was taken to the office of the Darrang district committee of AJYCP where a large number of mourners, well-wishers and colleagues offered their last respect. His body was consigned to flames as per traditional vedic rituals at the public crematorium at Tengabari here. He leaves behind his octogenarian mother, five elder brothers, including retired Nazir of Udalguri DC office, Munindra Sarma, and two sisters.
