From Tinsukia District Kon Gogoi was elected as vice- president and Surajit Moran as the assistant general secretary.
In the open session held under the presidentship of AJYCP president Rana Pratap Baruah on Saturday was addressed by several prominent speakers including columnist and former AJYCP leader Adip Kumar Phukan, leading columnist Pradyumnnya Goswami and AASU general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah.
Columnist Adip Kumar Phukan noted with dismay that as against rise of 9 percent Bengali speaking people in Assam during last four decades, the Assamese speaking population declined to 12 percent. This is obviously an alarming situation and it necessitated the constitutional safeguard for the indigenous people. "Only delimitation of the constituencies cannot provide safeguard to the people," he said.
