GAURISAGAR: Jhanji Hem Nath Sarmah College, one of the premier higher educational institutes in greater Jhanji, completed 59 years on Tuesday. The foundation day of the college was celebrated in its premises.
The day-long programme started with hoisting of flag by Dr Manjit Gogoi, principal of the college. Thereafter, the smriti tarpan programme was performed by Horen Baruah, former professor of the college, and college alumni Bimal Gogoi. The year-long diamond jubilee celebration started with lighting of lamp lit by Tuwaram Khanikor, former professor, SMD College, Charing. Later, an open session was held under the chairmanship of Bhabani Kumar Baruah, former principal in-charge of the college and president, college governing body.
The meeting was inaugurated by Jyoti Prasad Gogoi, former professor of the college and former president, ACTA. Dr Manjit Gogoi delivered the welcome speech. Addressing the gathering, Tuwaram Khanikar said that educational institutions cannot go ahead with time if they do not take up challenges. Educational institutions must adopt proper realistic planning and preparation for collective development.
In the function, Deva Hazarika, former Librarian, Sibsagar College, Joysagar, graced as an appointed speaker. Six distinguished persons, namely Sabharam Gogoi, Prodip Dutta, Bhulanath Borah, Bipul Borkatoky, Durlav Baruah and Rupon Gogoi were warmly felicitated by the college fraternity for their contributions towards development of the society.
Earlier in the function, research paper ‘Academia’ edited by Dr Jeuti Baruah, assistant professor of the college, was unveiled by Dr Anil Kumar Gogoi, former principal of the college.
