Jorhat: Jorhat's Tocklai Tea Research Institution will soon collaborate with Patanjali for research purposes to boost the production of tea in the state and conduct advanced research by extracting chemical compounds from leaves and seeds.
In a meeting that took place on Saturday, the decision on signing the Memorandum of Understanding was taken between Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Patanjali Ayurved MD Balkrishna.
The collaboration will carry out advanced research in which several chemical compounds will be extracted from tea leaves and seeds that can be used in medicine, cosmetics and wellness products.
According to the Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, there are a large number of medicinal plants available in Assam and the collaboration with Patanjali will benefit both parties.
Balkrishna added that Patanjali's collaboration with Assam's Industries and Commerce department will help to promote medicinal plantations in Assam.
In other news, the state government has decided to set up a Tea Park at Chayygaon in the Kamrup district of Assam in a bid to boost tea production in the state. The tea park will also help to improve the quality of its tea production.
As per reports from the state government, rail and port will also be connected with this Tea park. The government also said that cargo and warehouse and other facilities like tea grinding, blending, packaging and other utility services will be set up under one roof.
