Kejriwal Urges AAP Workers to Aid Assam Flood Victims

GUWAHATI: Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Chief Minister of Delhi, has appealed to party workers in Assam to assist people in the flood-affected areas and collaborate with local authorities in rescue and relief efforts. The flood situation in Assam has worsened, impacting around 29,000 people across three districts due to continuous rainfall, according to official reports.

Expressing his concern on Twitter, Kejriwal stated that heavy rains and floods were affecting the lives of people in Assam. He called upon AAP's local workers to actively support the flood victims in the affected districts and provide aid to the administration's rescue and relief operations.

Kejriwal's appeal to AAP workers in Assam highlights the urgent need for assistance to those affected by the floods. By collaborating with the local administration, the party aims to contribute to ongoing rescue and relief operations. The situation in Assam remains critical, and concerted efforts from various stakeholders are crucial to mitigate the impact of the floods and support the affected population.

The flood situation in Assam has further deteriorated, resulting in the inundation of additional areas and affecting a larger population, along with their homes and agricultural lands. Erosion has also been observed in several places. Currently, six districts—Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Kamrup (M), Dibrugarh, Cachar, and Nalbari—are facing floods. While urban flooding has affected the people in Kamrup (M), Cachar, and Nalbari districts, other areas are dealing with a combination of flooding and erosion. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that 25 villages have been submerged, impacting 28,870 individuals. Additionally, approximately 215.57 hectares of crop areas have been flooded, posing a threat to agriculture. Livestock has also been adversely affected by the rising water levels. The districts most affected by erosion include Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Bongaigaon, and Lakhimpur.

Due to heavy rainfall in the Lakhimpur district and Arunachal Pradesh, the Singara River experienced a sudden surge and breached its right embankment at Sholmoriya under the Naoboicha Revenue Circle recently. The resulting flood has already washed away a 100-meter stretch of the embankment and inundated around 12 villages, including Konwargaon, Balitika, Chamua Gaon, Sholmuriya, Bishnupur, and Phukan Doloni.

The floods caused significant damage to three concrete residential houses. People, livestock, and crop areas in the region have been severely affected by the flood. The district administration has deployed personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to rescue the affected individuals. The flood also breached the side bundh at Phulbari Basti and caused damage to the Dolohat to Laluk Kachajuli PWD Road at Dighpukhuri. Erosion and overflowing of water have been reported from Dolohat Tiniali to Laluk Kachajuli PWD Road.

Furthermore, on the same day, the Mohghuli-Borchala road was submerged at Sholmoriya. Additionally, five villages under the Narayanpur Revenue Circle have been submerged by floods caused by two rivers. The affected villages include  Harmoti, Charaidoloni,  Borpothar, Jarabari, and  Borpothar.
