KHERONI: Carrying out an operation against the proliferation of narcotics in the region, Kheroni Police was able to apprehend a constable of the Government Railway Police on the grounds of peddling drugs.

Along with the rest of the state, Kheroni police have also tightened security to prevent the supply and consumption of narcotics in the region. In this context, a police team apprehended one Sanjay Das working as a constable with the Government Railway Police.

The police team had earlier arrested a narcotics smuggler named Sushil Ghosh from the Kheroni region. Based on the intel provided, they later arrested the constable from the Hojai Railway station.

It is important to note that Kheroni Police had arrested Sushil Ghosh a day before. 300 gms of ganja, 98 containers filled with narcotics, 2 mobile phones and two soap boxes and a total of Rs 14950 in cash.

Meanwhile, the local police have registered a case regarding the incident and started an investigation into the matter.

Another recent operation by a team from Assam Police led to the capture of a sizeable consignment of contraband narcotics in the Tinsukia district of the state. The operation was carried out based on specific information by a team from the Kakopothar police station. They were able to recover a total of 700 grams of heroin concealed in a total of 57 containers. According to reports, the contraband was being taken from Dimapur in Nagaland to Arunachal Pradesh via Assam when it was seized by the police team.

The narcotics were hidden in a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dezire vehicle bearing registration number AS 04 P 7010. Another Maruti Suzuki Alto vehicle with registration number AS 01 BV 3092 was also seized in relation to this incident by the police team. They were also able to apprehend a total of three suspected peddlers of such narcotics during this operation. Their identities have been revealed by the authorities as Chiflu Ahmed, Maruf Ahmed and Abidul Haque. All of them belong to the Karimganj District of the state.
