Duliajan: In a horrific incident, an attempt to kidnap a young girl, was foiled near the St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School in the oil town of Duliajan on Monday morning of May 30.

As per reports, the incident took place when a gang of four to five miscreants arrived at the school in a car and tried to abduct a fourth standard girl by forcefully grabbing and pulling her. 

However, their attempt went in vain as the local people, who were reportedly present at the site of the incident came to the teenager's rescue and foiled their attempt.

A violent tug-off war between the locals and the kidnappers followed which resulted in the girl sustaining minor injuries. However, the suspected abductors managed to flee from the spot. 

The victim was admitted to the Oil India Hospital in Duliajan so as to avail of better medication. 

Meanwhile, the Duliajan police are carrying on with their investigation of the incident but so far, they have not succeeded in finding out any clues whatsoever.

The parents of the victim girl were petrified after getting to know about this shocking incident.

Earlier this month, the Sivasagar police arrested a youth from Sepon area of Sivasagar for kidnapping a minor girl. The accused had been identified as Bichitra Ruhi Das (18) of Betbari Alimur in Sivasagar.

The the15-year-old girl's family lodged a complaint, based on which the Sivasagar police started investigations to trace the girl and accordingly arrested the youth from Sepon area.

The girl's mother alleged that her daughter was kidnapped with the intention of taking her to Hyderabad.

The police had taken the youth into custody and a case had been registered against the youth u/s IPC 366.
