SIVASAGAR: Lachit Divas and National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day was celebrated on Friday at Gargaon College with resounding success, bringing together cadets and students in a spirited commemoration of the NCC’s invaluable contributions to youth development and national service. The programme was conducted by 11 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC and 49 Assam Naval Unit. The event kicked off with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the paying of homage to Lachit Barphukan. Distinguished speaker, Dr Raktim Pator, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Gargaon College and ex-CTO of 49 Assam Naval Unit, Gargaon College, delivered an inspiring talk on the patriotic greatness of Bir Lachit Barphukan. He further spoke of the significance of the NCC in shaping the character of a student.

An essay writing and quiz competition was also held which provided a forum for participants to articulate their thoughts on the role of the NCC in national development and share personal experiences. The judges, comprised of esteemed educators from NCC as well as Gargaon College fraternity. Tree plantation activities was also conducted underscoring the commitment towards environmental stewardship. The act symbolized the NCC’s dedication not only to the nation’s defence but also to sustainable practices and the preservation of our natural resources.

A pledge taking ceremony was also conducted marking the Constitution Day or ‘Samvidhan Divas’, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The cultural segment of the celebration showcased the diverse talents of participants. Dance, singing and music added a vibrant and entertaining dimension to the event. The day concluded with a grand award ceremony, recognizing outstanding performances in the quiz and essay competitions followed by the echoes of NCC song and the call to carry forward the values imbibed from NCC into daily life.
