LAKHIMPUR: With the onset of Raax Purnima, Lakhimpur district is all set to celebrate the sacred Raax Festival to glorify Krishna culture and consciousness to spread the perennial message of the power of Bhakti, that is— unconditional, spiritual love for the Supreme Soul.

The Raax Festival Celebration Committees and the socio-cultural institutions across the district, including North Lakhimpur and Dhakuakhana subdivisions, have already completed their final rehearsals and other arrangements in order to celebrate the festival from Sunday by staging the story of the life and divine activities of the Supreme Lord Shri Krishna, during his human incarnation, from his birth to the Raax Leela event. Batori Butala Parijat Sangha of Salalgaon under the district, which is the second pioneer social and cultural institution regarding the staging of the Raax Festival ever in the State, will celebrate the festival with two-day long agenda on Sunday and Monday. Artistes of the native and the neighbouring villages will take part in the staging of the show of Krishna Leela from his birth to Raax Leela under the direction of Prasanta Bhuyan and Hemkantha Sarmah.

Chandan Phukan, Jagat Dutta will play the role of Krishna while Banashree Bhuyan will play the role of Radha. On the other hand, Pranjal Pratim Borah and Biman Phukan will act as Kansa in the show. The organizers informed that advanced techniques and technology would be used while staging the shows on the sophisticated double stages. Another prominent socio-cultural institution of the district, Panigaon Pragati Sangha will stage the shows with three-day long agenda on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday coinciding with the centenary celebration of the socio cultural institution.

On the other hand, Sapotiya Anchalik Raax Utsav Udjapan Samiti under Dhakuakhana subdivision will celebrate its 45th event of the Raax Festival on November 29 and November 30. Under the direction of Sumitra Saikia, Ranjan Konwar and Drona Changmai, male and female artistes will jointly stage the shows of Krishna Leela on the first day while the second day shows of the same will be staged by purely female artistes in Sapotiya Community Ranga Mancha. On the second day, Professor Pratima Chetia will play the role of Kansa, Anu Chetia as Vasudev, Ritumoni Borgohain as Doivaki, Krishna Bhorali as Ugrasen, Pinki Gogoi as Nanda, Papumoni Chamua as Jashoda, Ankurina Borgohain as Krishna and Lakhimee Borgohain as Radha.

Similarly, Angarkhowa Puberun Sangha, Khaga Ranga Mancha, Bahpati Ranga Mancha, Madhya Telahi Anchalik Sankari Kala-Kristi Bikash Kendra, Udayn Sangha of Azad-Garehaga, Kumarkota Sati Radhika Kristi Sangha and many other Raax Festival celebration committees under Nowboicha, Laluk, Bihpuriya, Narayanpur, Dhalpur, Boginadi of the district are all set to celebrate the festival from Sunday. The celebration of the festival marks the Raax Leela of Lord Shri Krishna, which signifies the union of a pure beings with the Purushottam— the Absolute Soul by transcending the boundary of gender of the mortal body and by immersing all the senses in transcendental love for the Lord.
