LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration issued an ‘advisory’ following the sudden fall of water level in the downstream of River Subansiri.

The advisory, issued by an Additional District Commissioner, vide No: DM-20/29/2023/Phy-12, Dated: 27/10/2023, said, “Due to filling up of the reservoir of Subansiri Lower HE Project, NHPC, Gerukamukh, Dhemaji, the water of Subansiri river may decrease and the river basin may remain dried for several hours w.e.f. October 27, 2023 and the same shall become normal in due course. Under the circumstances above, all concerned are, therefore, requested to circulate the same among the villagers residing in and around the bank of river Subansiri and advise them to restrain themselves from activities like fishing, swimming, bathing, plying of boats etc. in the river water and not to venture in the river bed of Subansiri river during night hours under any circumstances to avert any kind of eventualities until return of normalcy of the flowing water of the Subansiri river.”

The advisory advised the villagers to keep their cattle away from the river to avoid any accident or loss thereof. “Moreover, people living in the downstream and low-lying areas of Subansiri river are advised to remain alert and not to panic relying on messages transmitted from unreliable and unofficial sources,” the advisory added.
