MANGALDAI:  The festivity of Bijoya Dashami celebration in Kharupetia on Tuesday was marred following the brutal killing of two persons, including a woman, over a land dispute. Eight persons also sustained severe injuries. The deceased have been identified as Jaher Ali alias Ghaire and his sister-in-law Mafia Khatun.

According to information, the deceased, accompanied by a number of persons including his relatives, on Tuesday allegedly tried to grab a plot of land under the possession of one Atab Ali. As Atab Ali and his men tried to stop Jaher Ali from grabbing their paternal land, a fierce fight took place between both parties. In retaliation, Jaher and his sister-in-law were killed on the spot and eight other persons sustained severe injuries.

On receipt of the information, Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal and Circle Officer of Dalgaon Revenue Circle, Sameer Choudhury immediately rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. In this connection, the police have arrested eight persons.
