GUWAHATI: On April 3, in Assam's Karimganj district, the detectives of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption detained a Lat Mandal on graft-related accusations. 

Joyshab Hussain Laskar, the arrest Lat Mandal, was assigned to the Circle Officer's office in Karimganj's Badarpur neighbourhood. Upon taking bribe money from the complainant to process his land mutation procedures, Laskar was caught in the act.

On the official twitter handle, the anti-corruption cell wrote, “Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and arrested Sh Joyshab Hussain Laskar, Lat Mandal of O/O Circle Officer, Badarpur, Karimganj after he accepted bribe from the complainant for processing his land mutation works.”

For soliciting and accepting bribes, Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) head engineer was detained.

On 22nd March, Wednesday, a team of authorities from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Cell caught the chief engineer, Indrajit Bora, red-handed and took him into custody.

Sources claim that Bora was detained after he accepted 4,000 rupees from the complainant to release his security deposit. A contractor has been identified as the defendant.

As this was happening, the ADGP of Assam's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Unit tweeted, “A team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and apprehended Sh Indrajit Bora, Chief Engineer, O/O Guwahati Municipal Corp. immediately after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for releasing his security deposit.”

In another such episode, a Lat Mandal was detained in Hajo, Assam, on suspicion of receiving bribe. The incident took place in mid-March. At the office of the Hajo Revenue Circle officer, a team from the anti-corruption cell caught the Lat Mandal red-handed and imprisoned him. 

Tankeswar Nath has been recognised as the Lat Manadal who was apprehended. He was detained as he accepted a Rs 4,000 bribe from the complainant.

 Lat Mandal was previously detained on March 31 by investigators from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam for receiving a bribe in the Kamrup district. 

Gitanjali Deka has been recognised as the Lat Mandal. She was assigned to the Kamalpur Revenue Circle's circle officer's office in Kamrup.
