GUWAHATI: In a significant step towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of self-reliance in edible oil production, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the commencement of a massive oil-palm plantation initiative. This effort is poised to revolutionize the state's agro-economy while empowering farmers to augment their earnings. The inauguration of the cultivation program took place in the Tinsukia district.
Highlighting the significance of this endeavor, Chief Minister Sarma conveyed the state's commitment to bringing approximately 3.75 lakh hectares of land under oil palm cultivation. To ensure the success of this initiative, the Assam government has entered into a partnership with Patanjali Food Limited (PFL). This collaboration entails the development of palm oil plantations across seven districts, namely Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), and Goalpara.
Patanjali Food Limited (PFL), a key partner in this venture, has outlined its comprehensive strategy. Founder Ramdev announced plans to establish 16 nurseries by the following year, facilitating the supply of high-quality seeds to farmers. Of these, 12 nurseries are scheduled to be set up across the seven districts within the current year, with an additional four nurseries planned for the subsequent year. Further demonstrating its commitment, PFL intends to establish an oil palm processing facility in Dhing, situated in the Nagaon district.
The collaborative efforts of Chief Minister Sarma and Ramdev were symbolized by the planting of oil palm saplings, signifying the inauguration of this expansive plantation endeavor. Beyond the planting ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma actively engaged with farmers by visiting information stalls. He expressed optimism regarding the substantial elevation of agricultural income through the widespread adoption of oil palm plantations.
In conclusion, Assam's ambitious oil-palm plantation initiative, launched in partnership with Patanjali Food Limited, not only aligns with Prime Minister Modi's self-reliance vision but also holds the promise of significantly boosting agricultural revenue. Through this initiative, Assam takes a noteworthy stride towards transforming its agricultural landscape while contributing to the nation's goal of reducing dependence on imported edible oils.
