DIGBOI: The spillage of a liquid from an oil pipeline has triggered tensions in a part of the Digboi town of the state. The incident triggered fears of any untoward incident resulting because of the leaked fuel.

According to local reports, the incident took place in the Christian Basti locality of the Balijan region of Digboi Town of the state. It was informed that a rapture on the pipeline had resulted in the spillage of fuel which started on Tuesday night. Although the information was passed to the authorities, they failed to stop the leak in the first half of Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the spilled fuel had accumulated in the field right next to the main road. This incident has triggered a sharp sensation among the local people who are fearful of any possible incident of fire or any other disaster.

Local police and safety officials from Oil India Limited have arrived at the location to take stock of the situation. The police officials are also taking steps to regulate the traffic in the location.

A few days back Garchuk Police uncovered a major oil smuggling racket and arrested four persons at Betkuchi in Guwahati. Officials said that a team from the Gorchuk Police Station which comes under the West Guwahati Police District was able to bust a gang of oil smugglers after they were found transferring diesel illegally at Lalung Gaon. The team was able to arrest four miscreants in connection to the incident. Their identities are Jayanta Barman of Noonmati, Basanta Das of Tetelia, Sukur Ali and Md Rafik Ali of Katabari. They were found transferring diesel from two oil tankers bearing registration numbers AS 01 DC 5446 and AS 12 F 1486. Officials said that the two tankers were coming from Betkuchi terminal when the team intercepted the tankers.
