NAGAON: Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Nowgong College (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy, organized a national level lecture programme at the college on Saturday. The programme was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Eastern Regional Centre on the theme “Amrit Kaal Vimarsh: Viksit Bharat@2047”.

Shubhada A. Joshi, Retired Head & Professor, Department of Philosophy of Mumbai University, distinguished researcher and internationally-acclaimed and renowned Professor of Philosophy, attended the lecture programme as chief keynote speaker. The proceedings of the lecture programme were initiated by Dr Bhuban Chandra Chutia, coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of the college welcomed the guests and other participants of the programme.

He expressed his gratitude to Indian Council of Social Science Research for specially selecting Nowgong College (Autonomous) for this unique event and to professor Joshi for accepting the invitation as keynote speaker to share her invaluable thoughts and enlightening philosophical thoughts among the participants.

Prof. Joshi in her speech, elaborated the intersection of Indian philosophical thought and the status of women in a captivating voyage through the layers of tradition and societal evolution. From the ancient texts of the Vedas and Upanishads, which celebrate female deities and portray women as embodiments of knowledge, to the more egalitarian outlooks of Buddhism and Jainism, the complex relationship between philosophy and the role of women which have shaped India’s cultural landscape.
