KOKRAJHAR: Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) Speaker Biswajit Daimary on Thursday visited the BTC Assembly to assess the seating capacity of legislators for holding the State’s winter assembly session at the BTC Assembly, Bodofa Nwgwr, to be held in December. Daimary was accompanied by MLA Jayanta Basumatary.

Daimary visited the BTC Assembly and also discussed about accommodation for 126 legislators, the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, Secretaries and other officers of Assam for their stay for a week. He assessed the current seating capacity of 46 elected MCLAs of BTC in the assembly hall and its expansion feasibility.

Talking to media persons after assessment of the assembly hall, Daimary said the ALA had decided to hold the week-long next assembly session of the State at the BTC Assembly Hall, Bodofa Nwgwr in December. He said the seating capacity of BTC assembly is 46 only but it will be increased to 126 to hold the State’s session in December. He said the capacity expansion work will start within 15 days and will be completed within a month as the BTC assembly hall has all requisite facilities. He also said that the State Government and BTC will do the needful modification of BTC assembly hall for increasing the seating capacity.

Daimary said he was looking for accommodations for at least 1500 guests in Kokrajhar during the State’s assembly session in December. He said he had discussed the matter with the BTC administration and Kokrajhar district administration and it was decided that the required accommodation would be made. There are guest houses of various departments of BTC in Kokrajhar, guest houses in CIT and NTPC, Bodoland Guest House, Circuit House, he said adding that accommodation would not be a problem.
