GUWAHATI : In a scary episode on Monday, atleast 13 people got injured in a leopard attack in Assam's Jorhat district. The entire Jorhat town was in a terrified state for the whole time. 

Amongst the injured ones, were three forest officials and children as well. The incident took place without any sort of provocation, when a stray leopard attacked the residents of the Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) and personnels from the Forest department. 

As per the sources, there exist a forest area of 200 bighas in the research institute, and it is suspected that, the leopard might have come out of there. As per a forest official statement, the leopard entered the human boundary and started attacking people out of utter suddenness. 

Mohan Lal Meena, the SP of Jorhat district, stated that, the incident came as a shocker, as such violent behaviour from a leopard is not expected. 10 civilians and 3 forest department staff got victimised in the episode, added the SP.

However, the injured people were rushed and admitted in the hospital immediately, and their condition is out of danger. A video went viral on social media platforms, where the leopard is seen roaming freely around the institution's campus whereas in another shot the wild animal was seen jumping on a car with people inside it.

Furthermore, a video where the big cat was on it's attacking spree, went all viral. According to sources, the leopard was loitering around the area from one place to the other during the entire day. It got aggressive after sensing the forest department team trying to catch it. 

However, the leopard was later tranquillised by the forest department  and taken for further care.

A day prior to this incident, a 45 year old man was attacked by a wild leopard in Guwahati's Fatasil Ambari area.

The victim was immediately admitted to the Dhirenpara FRU, but was later transferred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
