Assam: Local BJP Leader Arrested for Job Scam: Woman Alleges Bribery in Hojai

GUWAHATI: In a recent incident in Hojai's Lanka, a man identified as a prominent local leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam was arrested on charges of being involved in a job scam. The accused, identified as Saurav Choudhury, had allegedly taken Rs 1 lakh from a woman named Jahanara Begum, promising her a job opportunity.

Jahanara Begum claimed that Saurav Choudhury had duped her into giving him more than Rs 1 lakh in exchange for a job. The accused, who held a leadership position in the BJP Yuva Morcha, had recently been appointed as the president of the Dhal Pukhuri Mandal Block.

The fraudulent scheme involved Saurav Choudhury promising Jahanara Begum a job at a primary school located in the Dhal Pukhuri area of the district. To make his offer seem legitimate, he even provided her with an appointment letter.

However, when Jahanara Begum arrived at the school, she was shocked to discover that the appointment letter provided to her was a forgery. It became evident that Saurav Choudhury had deceived her.

According to the victim, the accused had initially assured her that she would only need to pay him the money after securing the job. However, as soon as he handed over the forged appointment letter, he insisted on receiving the bribe upfront, violating the initial agreement.

To further manipulate the situation, the accused falsely portrayed himself as a high-ranking BJP leader and claimed to have influential connections with top-level ministers within the state government.

Law enforcement authorities promptly intervened in the matter following Jahanara Begum's complaint. Saurav Choudhury was apprehended and taken into custody, and a thorough investigation was launched to uncover the extent of his fraudulent activities.

A police source familiar with the case stated that they are currently verifying the woman's statement to ensure its accuracy. Additionally, the authorities are committed to investigating the bribery aspect of the case, aiming to bring all those involved in the scam to justice.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and due diligence when dealing with job offers and monetary transactions, especially when dealing with individuals who claim to have political influence. The police investigation will shed more light on the case, ensuring that justice is served and highlighting the consequences of such deceitful actions in society.
