GUWAHATI: In a significant achievement for Assam's Lumding railway station, it has been honored with the prestigious 'Eat Right Station' certification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This recognition underscores Lumding's commitment to offering passengers high-quality and nutritious food, ensuring their well-being during their rail journeys.

Lumding railway station, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway), has become the third railway station within this network to attain the 'Eat Right Station' status, following Guwahati railway station and Katihar's Harishchandrapur railway station. This certification is valid from October 19, 2023, to October 18, 2025.

The 'Eat Right Station' certification from FSSAI is a mark of distinction, signifying that the railway station complies with stringent criteria related to food safety and hygiene. It is awarded to stations that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to providing safe and wholesome food options to passengers.

The NF Railway has made food safety a priority, and its efforts are reflected in Lumding's achievement. Furthermore, the railway authorities have ambitious plans to extend this recognition to more stations in Assam. The Rangia and Tinsukia railway stations are on their radar for future inclusion in the 'Eat Right Station' initiative. This expansion is a testament to the railway's dedication to ensuring the well-being of passengers across the region.

Previously, the Guwahati railway station in Assam had received the 'Eat Right Station' certification from FSSAI, which is valid from June 2, 2023, to June 2, 2025. This reaffirms the railway's consistent efforts to meet the high standards of food safety and hygiene.

The 'Eat Right Station' certification is a significant part of the broader 'Eat Right India' movement initiated by FSSAI. This nationwide campaign seeks to overhaul the country's food system, ensuring that it delivers safe, healthy, and sustainable food to all its citizens. To achieve this, the FSSAI sets rigorous benchmarks, and railway stations that adhere to these standards are recognized for their exceptional commitment to providing passengers with food that is both safe and nourishing.

To earn this esteemed certification, railway stations must undergo a comprehensive assessment conducted by an FSSAI-empanelled third-party audit agency. This evaluation covers various aspects of food storage, preparation, and service, ensuring that all food-related processes meet the highest standards of safety and hygiene.

Lumding Railway Station's attainment of the 'Eat Right Station' certification is a significant milestone in Assam's efforts to provide passengers with top-notch food services during their rail journeys. This recognition not only enhances the reputation of the station but also contributes to the overarching goal of 'Eat Right India' by FSSAI, which strives to make safe, healthy, and sustainable food accessible to all Indians.
