Guwahati: In a major victory against the war on drugs, an inter-state drugs network has been busted in a raid conducted by the Assam police.

This was informed by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati. The top cop informed that as many as 1 lakh Yaba tablets has been seized by the police.

The Joint Commissioner said that the consignment had come from Moreh near the Indo-Myanmar border and it was heading towards Guwahati, from where it would have been handed over and then sent to Bengaluru.

The police have arrested two persons, one of whom happened to be a police personnel of the Manipur police and has been working with them since the past four years. The duo, who have been identified as Thongkipin Haokip and Letmynchin Haokip, were bringing the consignment from Moreh in a Tata Nexon vehicle.

Partha revealed that the duo had come to Assam under the pretext of travelling as tourists and further disclosed that they had disguised themselves as travelers by carrying travel bags and wearing clothes which are often worn by tourists.

However, their plan did not succeed as the police had intelligence, based on which, they were nabbed.

When asked about the value of these tablets, he said that it differs from place to place and added that the price is determined by demand, supply, purchasing power and affordibility.

The Joint Commissioner further said that the price of these tablets will range somewhere between Rs. 2000 - Rs. 2500 in Bengaluru. He also said that the price gets increased if the police operation against these banned substances intensifies.
