Assam: Major Drug Bust Worth Rs 2 Lakhs in Assam's Sarupathar; Two Arrested

GUWAHATI: In a collaborative effort led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Golaghat, Assam, a successful operation resulted in the seizure of contraband narcotics valued at over Rs 2 lakhs in the town of Sarupathar. This operation, which spanned multiple jurisdictions, involved the Sarupathar, Naojan, and Sungajan police forces, all situated along the Assam-Nagaland interstate border.

The operation's focal point was a basti located in Sungajan village, a part of the Sarupathar sub-division within Golaghat district. During the meticulously executed raid, law enforcement officials apprehended two individuals on charges of narcotics possession and an attempted smuggling operation.

Preliminary reports suggest that the raid yielded a substantial discovery - a cache of 13 soap cases suspected to contain heroin. These seized drugs were meticulously weighed, and the total amounted to approximately 155 grams. In international illicit markets, the estimated value of this contraband was pegged at around Rs 2.50 lakhs.

Crucially, authorities intercepted a Bolero vehicle, bearing registration number AS 03 AA 1090, en route to transport the narcotics from Manipur to Dimapur in Nagaland via Assam. This interception played a pivotal role in thwarting the illicit drug trade and apprehending the suspects involved.

The two individuals detained during the operation were identified as Nurshad Ali and Marajul Hussain. Law enforcement officials are keeping a vigilant watch over the investigation and are committed to exploring all potential leads and connections in this narcotics case. Meanwhile, the detained suspects will be subjected to rigorous questioning to gather further information and potentially uncover the larger network involved in this illegal drug trade.

This joint operation underscores the dedication of law enforcement agencies in Assam to combat the scourge of narcotics trafficking. It highlights the critical role that collaboration between multiple police departments can play in curbing illegal activities along interstate borders. The successful seizure of the contraband and the apprehension of suspects mark significant strides in the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes in the region.

As the investigation progresses, authorities will remain vigilant in their efforts to dismantle any networks involved in narcotics trafficking and bring those responsible to justice. This operation serves as a testament to the relentless pursuit of law enforcement agencies to protect their communities from the harmful effects of drug trade and addiction.
