GUWAHATI: Officials under the East Police District of the Guwahati police Commissionerate attested one man on Thursday on the charges of committing sexual violence on a minor girl.

The accused identified as one Abdul Hamid has reportedly intoxicated a girl and raped her over the past few months. The incident came to light after the mother of the victim approached the Bhagaduttapur Police Station reporting that the person had lured her 14-years-old daughter, who is a student of Class 8. She complained that he later fed her some narcotics and raped her when she was unconscious.

Following the complaints of the family members, a case was registered in the Bhagaduttapur Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with sections 328 and 376 (3) of the IPC. However, he was able to remain absconding from the police since the filing of the case and he was finally taken in on Tuesday.

It must be noted that the accused Abdul Hamid is already the father of two children.

Previously a woman and two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a mentally challenged girl in Bhuragaon, Assam's Morigaon district. The victim, who was kidnapped on September 7, endured multiple instances of sexual assault while being held captive for over two weeks at the residence of a woman named Murshida Begum, as reported by the police. During police interrogation, the accused woman, Murshida Begum, disclosed that two to three individuals were involved in the sexual assault that transpired at her home. Murshida Begum, along with the two male accomplices, is in police custody while authorities continue their efforts to apprehend other suspects connected to the case.

ASP Samiran Baishya provided insights into the investigation, stating, "For almost 12 to 13 days, the victim was held by the accused, Murshida Begum, in her home, from where the victim was recovered." He explained that the case began with a missing person report filed at Morigaon Police Station, which prompted the launch of an inquiry. "We found the missing woman and accordingly arrested a woman named Murshida Begum from where the victim was recovered in connection with the case," Baishya added.
