Assam Man Awarded Life Imprisonment for Raping Minor Girl in Dhubri

GUWAHATI: A 27-year-old man in Assam has been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly raping a minor girl. The accused has been convicted under section 42 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The man identified as Debesh Biswas raped a 10-year-old girl in January 2020. The convict molested the minor when she was on the terrace of her house.

Biswas has also been fined Rs 1 lakh. Biswas is a resident of Ward No 12 of Dhubri town.

On January 19, 2020, the mother of the victim lodged an FIR at the Dhubri police station.

The mother of the victim had accused Biswas of taking her daughter to his room and committing sexual assault with her by removing her clothes.

The FIR also alleged that when the victim raised hue and cry, Biswas gagged her mouth and threatened her with dire consequences.

Based on the FIR, Dhubri police registered case No 110/2020 in January 2020 under sections 376-AB/506 of IPC read with Section 6 of POCSO Act against the accused and a few others.
