Assam Police arrested a person identified as Uttam Das for allegedly molesting a minor in Lumding of Hojai district on Tuesday after the accused forcibly took her inside his car and attempted the heinous act.

GUWAHATI: Amidst the growing concern over the rise of crime against women, another heinous incident has come to light from Hojai district of Assam.

A person has been arrested on charges of molesting a minor at Lumding town of the district.

As per information, the accused forcibly took the minor inside his car and molested her on Monday night.

The arrested individual has been identified as Uttam Das.

However, the victim managed to escape from the scene before the situation could get worse. When she reached home, she informed her parents about the incident. Thereafter a complaint was filed with the police and Das was arrested from his residence on Tuesday.

The police have informed that a case has been registered at the Lumding Police Station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Sharing the horror of the incident, Lumding Police Station Officer-in-Charge Chandan Jyoti Bora said that the accused after forcibly taking the minor into his car travelled to different locations and allegedly molested her.

The OC said, "We have received information that the accused person forcefully took the victim into a car and travelled to various locations and allegedly molested her."

The Police further revealed that the victim managed to get down of the vehicle after it was halted at a location. In that way, she managed to escape from further harm.

The Police Official stated before the media that the accused Uttam Das was arrested on Tuesday based on the complaint filed by the family of the victim.

Lumding Police has already launched a thorough investigation into the matter and will produce the accused Uttam Das before that court of law as per protocol.

This incident has once again ignited the concern surrounding the safety and security of women in the state and the need for measures to tackle the problem.
