GUWAHATI: In a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug smuggling, Assam Police recently made a major breakthrough, seizing an enormous quantity of cannabis weighing a staggering 1,705 kilograms. The operation unfolded in the Cachar district on a Thursday night, highlighting the relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat the drug trade.
The operation was set in motion based on valuable intelligence inputs received by the Cachar Police. They executed a meticulously planned special operation in the Kalain area, where their vigilance and swift action paid off. The target was a dumper, and the interception took place as the vehicle was en route to Meghalaya from Tripura via Assam. The pivotal moment came when the dumper was seized in the Digorkhal area.
This operation resulted in the recovery of a staggering 1,705 kilograms of cannabis, with an estimated market value reaching crores of rupees. The successful operation is a testament to the dedication and relentless pursuit of justice by the Assam Police.
Praising the exceptional efforts of the Assam Police, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to share his appreciation. He tweeted, "Acting on a tip-off, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation and intercepted one vehicle at Digorkhal area, Kalain in Cachar district. The police seized 1,705 kg of cannabis from the vehicle." The Chief Minister's acknowledgment underscores the significance of this achievement in the battle against drug trafficking.
This recent success follows a previous drug seizure near the Assam-Tripura border at Churaibari locality on October 2. During this operation, 51 kilograms of ganja were confiscated. Acting on critical information, the police, led by the Churaibari in-charge, conducted a raid on a vehicle bearing the registration number AS 11EC-4166. To their surprise, they discovered the ganja hidden in four packets concealed within a metal trunk box, which conspicuously bore the embossed Border Security Force (BSF) name.
The crackdown on drug smuggling operations remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies in Assam. In a related incident, the Karimganj Police apprehended two individuals, including the driver, on charges of smuggling ganja. These efforts reflect the commitment of Assam's law enforcement to curbing the illegal drug trade, ensuring the safety of the community, and upholding the rule of law.
