GUWAHATI: A massive fire that started at Ajanta Path in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on Thursday night, left more than 150 households homeless.

There were no reported casualties in the event, according to sources.

Yet, it is suspected that the fire damaged assets worth several lakhs.

Almost 150 homes in the area were entirely destroyed when the large fire broke out, which started at around 10.30 p.m.

It's believed that an electrical short circuit caused the fire to start at the home of Riju Ali.

Unfortunately, the precise cause of the fire is still unknown.

We were about to fall asleep when we spotted a dense smoke billow coming from a different room in our home. "We instantly fled for safety, yelled an alarm, and alerted the local police and fire station," Riju informed.

"Due to many LPG cylinders exploding, the fire had quickly spread”, he added.

The region was covered in flames in a blink of an eye, and numerous homes were entirely destroyed.

We were unable to preserve any of our possessions because the region was quickly consumed by the horrific fire.

"We've all lost everything here," remarked Ali.

Up to 15 fire fighters were dispatched right away.

For more than three hours, the firefighters battled to put out the fire.

" As soon as we learned about the incident, we hurried over to the location.

"We struggled to put out the fire because of the intense heat and had to work long hours," a firefighter told ABP Live.

He said, "We constantly urge the public to exercise additional caution, particularly during this dry season when the majority of fire occurrences are reported."

The prime reason behind this is that, the fire might at least be kept under control until fire trucks arrives, people should put firefighting equipment in their homes.

The majority of the demolished homes were made of thatch.

The majority of the tenants were day labourers who were renting Riju Ali's homes, which were all his.

Immediately after the fire started, the neighbourhood was completely engulfed in heavy smoke, sending terrified individuals running helter-skelter.

The fire also completely destroyed two automobiles.

High-ranking police officers and members of the district administration also flocked to the scene to assess the situation.

Several of the people who lost their homes in the fire were forced to spend the night outside, while others moved in with relatives and friends.
