GUWAHATI: In a significant law enforcement operation, authorities in Guwahati successfully seized a massive consignment of heroin valued at Rs. 21 crores. The operation took place in Jorabat, an area on the outskirts of Guwahati, during a late-night joint effort by the City General Police Department (CGPD) and the Jorabat OP.

The operation unfolded when a luxury vehicle, bearing the registration number NL01 CA 1197, was intercepted by the CGPD team in collaboration with Jorabat OP. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers made a startling discovery. Hidden within the vehicle was a concealed compartment containing a total of 198 soapboxes filled with heroin. The total weight of the seized heroin amounted to a staggering 2.527 kilograms.

In conjunction with the seizure of the narcotics, three individuals believed to be involved in drug peddling were apprehended by the police. These suspects were identified as Amir Khan, Mohammed Yakub, and Mohammed Jamir, and they are now in custody, facing charges related to drug trafficking.

The estimated market value of the seized heroin is a staggering Rs. 21 crores, underscoring the magnitude of this successful operation in curbing illegal drug trade in the region.

Following the momentous seizure, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, publicly commended the dedicated efforts of the Guwahati Police. In a statement shared on social media, he wrote, "In yet another successful operation, @GuwahatiPol seized 198 soap boxes containing suspected heroin weighing 2.527 kg at Jorabat. Three persons were apprehended in the incident. Kudos to @assampolice!"

This operation not only represents a significant blow to the illicit drug trade but also highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies in Assam to combat drug-related crime.
