UDALGURI: Personnel with the Forest Department of Assam, with the help of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans, managed to rescue a massive python from Assam’s Udalguri district on Wednesday.

In human habitation areas wild animals are often found roaming in search of food and this time a massive python weighing around 1 quintal was rescued by the people in Assam's Bhergaon on November 15. It was later released in the Barnadi forest area, according to the officials of the forest department.

People were amazed to see the huge python gnawing around in the residential area of Bhergaon. Few others were petrified seeing the python as fear continued to grip the region continuously witnessing wild animals roaming around the place.

"We received information that a huge python has been discovered at Deochunga, Bagamati. We all reached the spot and found the python. Yes, the python is huge and is estimated to weigh more than 1 quintal and the length will be around 5-6 feet. We recovered the python and brought it into our office with the public's help and again released it in the pond", said one of the forest officials while speaking to the media.

Previously, forest officials of the Haflong forest range rescued a ferret badger from the Haflong railway colony and released it in the forest area. The team of forest officials led by Jananjay Haflongbar, Forest Range Officer, also rescued an Asian Rock python near Moulhoi village and released in the forest. Haflongbar said that he had seen the ferret badger in Dima Hasao for the first time. The district of Dima Hasao has been an abode of many wild animals. Since the present forest department of Dima Hasao has been taking proper steps for the preservation and protection of wildlife, the people are also coming forward to save the wildlife of Dima Hasao.
